This is a big piece of Terlingua Calcite for sale: 7-inches, and 2 ¾ pounds. The showy part of this piece is the nice layer of Terlingua Calcite on top. But it also has layers of associated calcite alternating with layers of Terlingua Calcite, and layers of matrix. It’s slightly propped up in the back to tilt it up and forward for the camera. It measures approximately 7 x 4 x 2½ inches, and weighs 2 pounds, 12.1 ounces.

Under long wave, the piece shows multiple shades of pink, lilac, lavender, purple, some yellow, and a whitish area on side 2. Mid-wave ultraviolet brings out some great purple, a greenish color, yellow, and the whitish color again. Under short wave, the piece displays the classic blue color that Terlingua Calcite is known for. And after exposure to either short, or mid-wave uv, it also displays the classic phosphorescence or afterglow that lasts for several seconds.
The piece is nearly “as found” with minimal prep work done. It looks great as-is, but if I had the time, I would put some additional work into the piece to improve it. As with much of this material, it has some iron staining. The back side of the piece has some matrix. Some looks like it would be fairly easy to remove, but some looks like it would not be so easy to remove.
Regardless, the piece is big and has great color. And with a little effort, it could be even better.
